SHILLONG:
Aspiring BJP candidate from North Shillong M H Kharkrang said that the constituency which encompasses major commercial areas such as Khyndai Lad, Motphran and others, gets targeted when any problem arises in any part of the state.
Speaking to reporters on November 18, Kharkrang said that youth in North Shillong lack gainful employment.
He said that he started the safe and secure project when he was the Superintendent of Police (SP) East Khasi Hills District where CCTV were installed in major junctions in Shillong.
Kharkrang said he came to know that some CCTVs were malfunctioned and observed that the police department has to be on the lookout and detect crime. He added that the police department has cells which are not functioning.
He said that the police should reach out to the public and bridge the gap between police and public.
As for the Harijan Colony issues, Kharkrang said that relocating the residents is not an easy task but observed that a solution does not appear on the ground.
