SHILLONG:
North Tura MLA Thomas A Sangma has been selected to be the new Speaker of the Meghalaya Assembly, replacing Metbah Lyngdoh of the UDP who held that position in the last assembly term.
Thomas is a two term NPP legislator from North Tura constituency.
He defeated Adamkid A Sangma of the BJP in this election with a considerable margin.
In the last term he held the position of Chief Adviser to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
Meanwhile, Protem Speaker Timothy D Shira will be appointed as the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, informed highly placed sources within the NPP to The Meghalayan.
