Police hunt for suspects involved in Umiam murder case

The Diengiei Durbar area and Dorbar Shnong Mawlaingut will hold a rally on March 13 at 3 pm.

SHILLONG:

Police are on the hunt for two suspects involved in the murder of Omeka Myrthong, who’s mutilated body was found at Umiam lake.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference on March 10, DIG (Eastern Range) Meghalaya, Davis N R Marak said, “Two suspects who were last seen with the victim are absconding as of now.”

Meanwhile, the Diengiei Durbar area and Dorbar Shnong Mawlaingut will hold a rally on March 13 at 3 pm.

Earlier on March 7, villagers found a decapitated head at the banks of the Umiam lake and a day later, they discovered a hand floating in the lake and unearthed a lifeless body, believed to be the remaining body parts of the man, whose head was found at the lake.

The deceased has been identified as Omeka Myrthong, a father of five from Mawlaingut in the East Khasi Hills district.

The deceased has been missing since February 26 as per information from family members, according to Saindor Nongbsap, secretary of Mawlaingut village. He affirms that the deceased is a good person who would not harm anyone.
