Ri Bhoi youth urges govt for local educational institutions

Maring underscored that currently, many students from the state are compelled to seek education outside Meghalaya, presenting challenges, particularly for those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

NONGPOH:

Albert Maring from Umdap village in Ri Bhoi District addressed the media in Nongpoh today, advocating the establishment of proper educational institutions by the state government to ease access for students in the area.

Maring underscored that currently, many students from the state are compelled to seek education outside Meghalaya, presenting challenges, particularly for those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

He said that parents often aspire for their children to attain success and bring honour to the family by pursuing education elsewhere. However, Maring lamented that such aspirations sometimes lead to tragic outcomes, citing incidents in Ri Bhoi and the state that have brought sorrow to families and communities.

Maring highlighted the urgent necessity for the government to take steps towards establishing educational institutions offering diverse courses such as engineering, architecture, skill development, and other professional disciplines. He argued that the presence of such institutions would mitigate financial burdens, ensure the safety of youth, foster employment opportunities, and uplift villages throughout the region.
