Centre nightmare for students writing CUET

SHILLONG:

Many students from the state taking the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for undergraduate programmes in Central universities across the country have been given exam centres in states other than the ones they had selected and lecturers in North Eastern Hills University (NEHU) termed it a nightmare.

“Some students have downloaded their admission cards for the exam, with date, centre and venue. But just a day before the exam there is a change in venue. Imagine someone who initially was assigned to write in Guwahati the venue is changed to NEHU! I have heard of such a case,” a NEHU teacher said.

The lecturer said that this has been happening since the CUET for UG started.

The teacher said that almost every day students come to enquire about the venue and when they are asked for their admission card it shows NEHU but in Chandmari (Tura Campus).

Meanwhile, sources said that the state education department is in touch with the National Testing Agency (NTA) to discuss the matter.

“In case anyone misses the exam due to some issue they will be given another chance,” sources said.

Meanwhile, sources in NEHU said that the university gave NTA 250 computers for conducting the CUET post graduate examination.

The sources also said that the examinations are being held in two slots per day in eight centres of Shillong.

It said that students who were earlier given Guwahati as centres but the venues were changed at the last minute are out of his knowledge.

“NEHU is only giving infrastructure and this is NTA’s doing,” sources said.
