RPF seizes ganja

GUWAHATI:

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of NF Railway recovered ganja (cannabis) worth Rs. 21.30 lakh during regular checks in trains and stations.

Acting on a tip-off on January 20, the officers, and staff of RPF Post, New Jalpaiguri and the officials of the Commercial Department conducted a joint checking and recovered two parcel packages that had been booked from New Jalpaiguri to Bhatinda by declaring the consignment as cosmetic items by the consignor. On opening the two seized packages, 42 packets of ganja weighing about 87 kgs worth about Rs. 8.70 lakh were found.

On January 19, another operation was conducted at Dimapur railway station and the officials recovered seven packets of ganja weighing 9.5 kgs valued at Rs. 95 thousand. Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to Custom Department, Dimapur, for disposal.

Similarly, the RPF, along with other officials, seized around 116.5 kgs of ganja from Guwahati and Agartala.
