Security reinforces for Assam CM following threat from Sikh group

Guwahati, March 02: Assam Police has boosted security measures for Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in response to a threat from a proscribed Khalistani group.

A caller who claimed to be a supporter of the pro-Khalistan leader Amritpal Singh, currently locked in Dibrugarh Central Jail, alleged that the latter was being tortured in captivity along with his nine other associates.

The unidentified Caller also threatened that Chief Minister Himanta would face grave consequences if the 10 Sikhs undergoing hunger strike, die in jail.

It needs to be mentioned that Amritpal Singh along with nine others were arrested by Punjab Police under the National Security Act in April 2023 and transported to Assam on a special flight. Since then they are lodged in Dibrugarh Jai and since a few days Amritpal Singh and his associates are on a hunger strike in Dibrugarh jail with a demand to shift them to Amritsar jail or face the consequences.

Although Assam CM has ruled aside the threat, still State DGP GP Singh has said that the Assam Police is fully committed for the security of State CM.
