Trinamool stages 12-hour hunger strike in Guwahati against price rise

Several families who have been evicted from Silsaku were also participated in the hunger strike.

GUWAHATI:

Hundreds of workers of Assam Trinamool Congress (ATC), on May 23, staged a 12-hour hunger strike at Sachal in protest against the Assam government’s failure to control the hike in prices of essential commodities in the state.

“When the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was in the opposition, they had protested against price rise by riding cycles, cycle rickshaws and even bullock carts. But now that they are in power, they have nothing to say about the price hike of essential commodities,” ATC president and former Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora said.

Highlighting how prices of 800 categories of life-saving drugs have allegedly gone up, Bora said, “The prices of food items is going up. The prices of petrol and diesel have also gone above the international market. The skyrocketing prices of essential commodities has thrown the lives of common people out of gear.”

Several families who have been evicted from Silsaku were also participated in the hunger strike.
