Sikkim violence: 4 arrested for attacking Fmr CMs convoy in Gangtok

Gangtok: 

Four persons have been arrested on March 29, by Gangtok police for stone pelting on former chief minister Pawan Chamling’s convoy and assault on Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) workers on March 28.

According to the police sources, the four persons arrested have been identified as Sanjeev Gurung, Jigme Bhutia, Tenzing Bhutia and Navin Pradhan.

All four have been booked under different sections of IPC and are presently under police custody.

Notably, yesterday the convoy of Sikkim Democratic Front(SDF) president and former Chief Minister Pawan Chamling was attacked allegedly by supporters of the ruling SKM near the state legislative Assembly premises. As per inputs, stones were hurled at Chamling’s convoy as the former Chief Minister went to the Assembly on the first day of the Budget session after a gap of almost three years.

As such, SDF supporters had come to see him off till the Assembly. However, Chamling’s convoy was attacked while he was returning from Assembly premises.

Later, when SDF supporters were on their way to the Sadar police station in Gangtok, they were attacked as well.
