State Veterinary Hospital

SHILLONG, FEB 20: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday informed that a state veterinary hospital will be set up at Upper Shillong.

“We have already sent a proposal of Rs 30 crore under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DeVINE),” Sangma said in his reply.

Earlier, Leader of Opposition Ronnie V Lyngdoh has requested the Minister in-charge Animal Husbandry & Veterinary AL Hek to take up with the Prime Minister for setting of veterinary hospitals in the state since he also being a senior BJP leader from Meghalaya.

According to him, the purpose of the government to help the farmers by distribution of piglets will be defeated if measures are not taken to prevent deaths of pigs in the state.

Congress legislator from Mawhati Charles Marngar has requested the state government to consider giving compensation to farmers due to death of pigs in the state.

To this, Hek said that no compensation is being provided to the farmers since they can claim insurance at Rs 4,000 per pig.
