Substandard construction of Baghmara college alleged

Niksamso Garo Community Organisation has termed the building as "unsafe" for use and are calling for action against the contractor for allegedly attempting to conceal the cracks with cement coating putting at risk the lives of students and faculty.

TURA:

Construction of the largest college in South Garo Hills- Captain Williamson Memorial Govt College building at Baghmara has been termed as sub standard by the pressure group Niksamso Garo Community Organisation of South Garo Hills which submitted a complaint to South Garo Hills deputy commissioner on Friday.

The protest is over alleged multiple cracks in the main structure of the college building even though the construction is still incomplete.

The organisation has termed the building as “unsafe” for use and are calling for action against the contractor for allegedly attempting to conceal the cracks with cement coating putting at risk the lives of students and faculty.

“Many schemes given to South Garo Hills district are poorly implemented by contractors and we are demanding a complete overhaul of the building where cracks have occured. There was an attempt to hide the faults by the contractor and stern action must be taken,” demanded Niksamso Garo Community Organization Southern Zone president Arjun Marak.
