Tear gas fired as groups oppose expansion of Meghalaya Cements Ltd in EJH

According to reports, the protestors created a ruckus which forced the police to fire tear gas and lathi charge them resulting in injuries to many.

Police resorted to lathi charge and tear gas firing as pressure groups opposed the public hearing by Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board for the expansion of Meghalaya Cements Ltd plant at Thangksai Lumshnong in East Jaintia Hills, on August 24.

According to reports, the protestors created a ruckus which forced the police to fire tear gas and lathi charge them resulting in injuries to many.

The pressure groups had earlier written to the Deputy Commissioner of the district expressing strong opposition to the proposed public hearing for the expansion of the plant.
