Tribals in Manipur are not Myanmarese, we are Indians: Mizoram MP

The Mizo National Front (MNF) MP said, "We have been living there for over 200 years, before the British colonised India."

NEW DELHI:

Lone Rajya Sabha member from Mizoram K. Vanlalvena, on August 10, slammed Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments that the tribal community members in Manipur are Myanmar nationals.

Expressing displeasure and disapproval over Shah’s comments, Vanlalvena told Rajya Sabha that the tribals in Manipur are not immigrants from Myanmar.

The Mizo National Front (MNF) MP said, “We have been living there for over 200 years, before the British colonised India.”

It may be mentioned that the MNF-led by Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga is a part of the BJP-led NDA. However, MNF MPs in Parliament had earlier supported the no confidence motion brought by the Opposition against Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government despite MNF being an ally of NDA.
