Tug of war between NPP and UDP to form government

According to sources, the UDP with 11 legislators is planning to rope in the Congress and Trinamool Congress (TMC) (5 seats each), Voice of the People Party (4 seats), People’s Democratic Front (PDF) and Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) (2 seats each) and one independent MLA from Rambrai-Jyrngam Remington Gabil Momin.

SHILLONG:

Even as the National People’s Party (NPP) and its ally the Bharatiya Janata Party met Governor Phagu Chauhan to urge him to invite them for forming the government, on the other hand regional parties led by the United Democratic Party (UDP) are trying to stitch another alliance.

However, sources said that this coalition seems to be a long shot since these parties represent different ideologies.

According to political observers, this alliance can be strong only if the BJP extends support to it.

The sources also said TMC leader Mukul Sangma is being kept in the loop over the development even as he has agreed to be part of it.

The tug of war over government formation has just started with both sides trying to rope in MLAs from other parties.
