Metbah Lyngdoh

SHILLONG:

United Democratic Party chief Metbah Lyngdoh said the party will soon decide on the candidates for the Lok Sabha elections.

“We have just initiated the process and hopefully we will be able to close it at the earliest,” Lyngdoh told reporters on Tuesday.

He said that those who wanted to contest from UDP have already made their interest known to the party. “The process has just started for the MP election. We will inform shortly (on the decision taken in this regard),” Lyngdoh added.

Refusing to divulge the names of the aspiring candidates, Lyngdoh said, “Right now I cannot say anything. There are so many names but we will be sharing it during the internal meeting of the party first and thereafter, we will share with the rest.”

“We welcome anyone who is willing to contest. Let them express and we will discuss and it is up to the party to decide,” he maintained.

The two non-UDP candidates are Khasi Authors Society president DRL Nonglait and former HYC president Robertjune Kharjahrin.

The competitors from the UDP include Cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh, general secretary and ex-Nongthymmai MLA Jemino Mawthoh, party vice-president and former Mawlai MLA PT Sawkmie and Sohra MDC and former KHADC chief executive member Titosstarwell Chyne.
