SHILLONG:

UDP chief Metbah Lyngdoh on Monday said the people of Shella will ensure the party retain the seat in the upcoming elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), to be held next year.

His statement came after the sitting Shella MDC and former KHADC chief Teinwell Dkhar had recently announced his decision not to seek re-election this time.

“The good works done by the sitting MDC is one of the reasons why people will again vote for the UDP. We will ensure we get candidates who will work for the welfare of the people. We have no doubt when it comes to Shella constituency,” Lyngdoh told reporters.

“Teinwell has expressed that he is not keen to contest although the party still wants him to contest but we leave it to his wisdom and the Shella circle to take a decision on the matter,” he said.

To a query, the UDP chief said that the party will give tickets to winnable candidates for the MDC elections in Khasi and Jaintia Hills region.
