NONGPOH:

Residents of Umroi Nongrah on Saturday lashed out against the village headman for trying to sell the village pond without their knowledge.

The residents on Saturday inspected the pond and placed a signboard that said that the pond was not for sale without the knowledge of the Dorbar or the villagers.

The protest started after villagers heard that Umroi Nongrah headman Baiateilang Lapang had sold this pond without notifying the executive committee of the dorbar shnong.

P Dkhar, the former headman of Nongrah, issued a warning against potential buyers saying that the pond belongs to the public and that the villagers will never allow it to be sold.

The residents also condemned the action of the headman for trying to sell the pond without the dorbar shongโ€™s approval or knowledge.
