TURA:

One of the largest batch of high school students in the state’s record will be seated in 152 different centres from March 24th onwards as they face this year’s Class X Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examinations, more famously known as the Matric exams.

A record number of 58,658 students from Khasi Hills to Garo Hills will be attempting this crucial examination that will be a deciding factor on the education stream they will move on to in their college life.

As has been the trend, girls once again overtake boys when it comes to numbers with 33,292 females against 25,366 males appearing for the exams, this year.

Shillong region has the highest number of SSLC centres-87 covering the entire Khasi and Jaintia Hill districts, while Tura region has 65 centres spread across five districts that also includes a high number of examinees in the minority dominated plains of West Garo Hills.

By contrast, the Class XII Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examinations, which begins a day later, on March 25th has just half the number of students attempting.

The number of students for this year’s  Class XII HSSLC exams stands at just 28174 for both regular and non-regular. The largest share of students-22,694 are from the regular section.

These students will be appearing from 105 different centres- Shillong region 66 and Tura region 39 centres.
