SHILLONG:
The atmosphere in Shillong was charged with excitement on January 9 as Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri officially marked the beginning of the countdown of the 5th Meghalaya Games by flagging off the torch relay ceremony.
The event, organised by the Meghalaya State Olympic Union (MSOU) in collaboration with the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA), sets the stage for the upcoming sporting spectacle.
The flag-off ceremony of torch relay took place at the SSA Ground Polo in Shillong, with the torch now beginning its symbolic journey across the state. Athletes and sports enthusiasts gathered to witness this moment.
The torch relay will traverse various locations, building anticipation for the Meghalaya Games scheduled to kick off on January 15 and run until January 20. The relay will culminate in Tura, the hosting town, where the flame will be used to light the official cauldron during the grand inauguration ceremony.
President Droupadi Murmu is slated to inaugurate the Meghalaya Games in Tura, adding a distinguished touch to the event.
