Ampareen files FIR against fake WhatsApp chat impersonating her name

Dr Lyngdoh in the FIR wrote, “The contents of the screenshot show a false conversation in Khasi between an identified individual and a WhatsApp account impersonation me. The WhatsApp account seen in the screenshot has used a public-available photograph of me as its profile photograph, and has engaged in a fake conversation which discusses the illegal use of cash-for-votes during the upcoming Assembly Elections in Meghalaya.”

SHILLONG:

NPP candidate from East Shillong Constituency Dr Ampareen Lyngdoh has filed an FIR at the Laitumkhrah Police Station regarding the circulation of a fake WhatsApp conversation discussing cash-for-votes during the Assembly Elections impersonating her name.

Dr Lyngdoh in the FIR wrote, “The contents of the screenshot show a false conversation in Khasi between an unidentified individual and a WhatsApp account impersonation me. The WhatsApp account seen in the screenshot has used a public-available photograph of me as its profile photograph, and has engaged in a fake conversation which discusses the illegal use of cash-for-votes during the upcoming Assembly Elections in Meghalaya.”

Requesting the police to take immediate and necessary action against the individuals responsible for circulating the fake screenshot,  the NPP candidate wrote, “The actions of these individuals attract relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act 2000, including Section 66D provisions of the Indian Penal Code. 1980 including Sections 171(c), 171(G), 171 (F), 153A, 499, 500, 505(2), and provisions of the Representation of Peoples ACT 1951 including section 151.

Terming the WhatsApp conversation to be fake and a serious violation of law, Lyngdoh said that the unidentified individuals who are responsible for creating this screenshot and fake conversation have sought to use illegal, and wholly immoral, means to negatively influence the outcome of the 2023 Assembly Elections.
