Assam protestors blame govt over illegal land excavation in Palasbari

Guwahati, Feb 20: Hundreds of angry locals in and around Palasbari area of Kamrup district in Assam, outside of Guwahati, staged a protest on Monday blaming the state government of being indifferent to the large scale illegal land excavation taking place in their area causing widespread environmental destruction.

Carrying placards and shouting anti-government slogans, women and children too joined the protest with protestors also burning tyres on roads to register their anger.

Commuters passing through Palasbari had a difficult time during the protest as angry protestors blocked the roads and staged a demonstration in front of the forest office at Kukurmara.

The protestors have threatened to intensify their stir unless the illegal excavations are stopped and hte perpetrators booked under the law.
