BSF foils cattle smuggling attempt, 2 held

The border organistaion also rescued 18 cattle heads from being smuggled to Bangladesh from the operations.

GUWAHATI:

The Border Security Force (BSF) foiled two cattle smuggling attempts along the Indo-Bangladesh border and arrested two persons, on February 14. The border organistaion also rescued 18 cattle heads from being smuggled to Bangladesh from the operations.

The arrested smugglers were identified as Habizur Mondal (21) and Azidul Miya (20).

While vigilant troops of Boreralga Border Outpost (BOP) of 45 Bn BSF apprehended Mondal and rescued 16 cattle heads in Salmara-Mankachar district of Assam, Miya was caught by troops deployed at Padma BOP 75 Bn BSF along with two cattle heads near Singimari village under Sitai police station in West Bengal’s Coochbehar district.

Mondal was arrested near Kaliaralga Part-2 under Kokradanga police station and follows the February 13 killing of a Bangladeshi cattle smuggler, identified as Faridul Islam, by the BSF in the same district.

Referring to the incident, a BSF spokesperson said, “In our crusade against trans-border crimes at Indo-Bangladesh border, our troops, under the aegis of Guwahati Frontier, captured two cattle smugglers and recovered 18 cattle heads.”

The two smugglers and the seized cattle heads have been handed over to the nearest police station at Sukchar for further legal action.
