Assam sees spike in Covid-19 cases with positivity rate of 4.13%

Kamrup Metro detected the highest number of cases followed by Kamrup Rural, Bongaigaon, Nagaon and Dibrugarh districts.

Official figures from the National Health Mission (NHM), show that the Covid positivity rate in Assam has gone up to 4.13 per cent on June 19 from 0 on June 12 after daily tests confirmed 104 active cases.

According to the official bulletin of the NHM, a total of 9 fresh cases of Covid-19, all from Kamrup Metro district, were detected in the state out of the 213 tests conducted on Sunday. Kamrup Metro detected the highest number of cases followed by Kamrup Rural, Bongaigaon, Nagaon and Dibrugarh districts.

“Violating Covid protocol, especially in Guwahati city, has become the biggest concern amid the threat of another surge. The trend is similar to the two previous waves of Covid-19. The infection is probably being carried by rail and air passengers,” the official added.

On June 18, 25 Covid positive cases were detected in the state out of 611 tests conducted and the positivity rate then was 4.09 per cent. Of the fresh cases, 18 are from Kamrup Metro, three from Dibrugarh, two from Kamrup (Rural), and one each from Cachar and Hojai districts. On June 17, the state recorded 11 Covid positive cases with a positivity rate of 3.13 per cent, with nine from Kamrup Metro and two from Kamrup Rural district.

On June 16, 15 cases were detected out of 521 tests conducted and the positivity rate was 2.88 per cent. Of the fresh cases, 11 were from Kamrup Metro, one each from Bongaigaon, Darrang, Dhemaji and Kamrup Rural districts. On June 15, 21 cases were detected out of 721 tests conducted and the positivity rate was 2.89 per cent. Of them, 11 were from Kamrup Metro, seven from Kamrup Rural, two from Bongaigaon and one from Nagaon district.

On June 14, 10 cases were detected out of 432 tests conducted and the positivity rate was 2.31 per cent. Of them, eight cases were reported from Kamrup Rural and one each from Bongaigaon and Kamrup Metro districts. Two deaths were also recorded, one each from Hojai and Dibrugarh districts.

On June 13, five cases were detected out of 223 tests conducted and the positivity rate was 2.24 per cent. Three of the cases were from Kamrup Metro and one each from Kamrup Rural and Cachar districts. On June 12, there was no fresh Covid case recorded in the state.

The state recorded two Covid positive cases with a positivity rate of 1.02 per cent on June 11 and seven cases with a positivity rate of 1.58 per cent on June 10.

It may be noted that the state had become free of positive cases in the first week of April this year.
