BSF seizes 1200 liquor bottles in Garo Hills

The BSF further added that despite a ban on alcohol in Bangladesh, trafficking of liquor is common across the border.

SHILLONG:

The Border Security Force (BSF) troops, on Saturday, seized more than 1200 bottles of liquor along the Indo-Bangladesh border in West and South Garo Hills.

According to the border organisation, the bottles were meant to be smuggled to the neighbouring country, said a statement released by the BSF.

The BSF further added that despite a ban on alcohol in Bangladesh, trafficking of liquor is common across the border. And to thwart such illegal activities, the border organisation has identified vulnerable routes and patches used frequently by the smugglers and is dominating them by deploying additional manpower and gadgets.

There are government-approved alcohol-producing companies in the neighbouring country, but owing to their fewer numbers and high prices, there is a high demand for comparatively cheap Indian liquor in Bangladesh, the BSF said.

BSF is maintaining a high degree of alertness on the international border to maintain national security as well as to prevent all kinds of trans-border crimes and illegal activities.
