TURA:

Internet services provided by the telecommunications giant BSNL have experienced an unprecedented 36-hour outage in the Garo Hills region, affecting five districts. This prolonged disruption has had severe repercussions on financial services and various institutions since Friday morning.

According to BSNL authorities, the root cause of the issue lies in a major fiber breakdown that occurred between Goalpara and Guwahati, the critical link connecting the Garo Hills area. Despite the dedicated efforts of their technical teams, the restoration of communication lines has remained elusive even as late as Saturday afternoon.

This disruption has inflicted substantial disruptions on crucial sectors such as banks, post offices, government departments, and numerous private enterprises. The financial stability and daily operations of these establishments have been significantly compromised due to the fiber cut.

It is noteworthy to highlight that BSNL holds a prominent position as the primary telecommunications provider in the Garo Hills region. With the highest number of FTTH fiber connections, particularly in the town of Tura, the company’s influence is substantial.

However, the company has gained notoriety for recurrent network disruptions, particularly in the realm of internet services. These disturbances are often attributed to subpar maintenance practices and engineering shortcomings during the installation of cables alongside roads, notably highways.
