Kidnapper driver sentenced to 7 years for kidnapping minor girl

The victim had boarded his autorickhaw on the morning of  March 14, 2017, but failed to return home.

The driver of an auto rickshaw who kidnapped a 14-year-old in Chibinang area of West Garo Hills on March 2017 has been convicted and jailed by a POCSO court in Tura on August 9.

The victim had boarded his autorickhaw on the morning of March 14, 2017, but failed to return home.

Her family approached police and investigation led to the accused, identified as Anishur Rahman alias Rahul being the culprit who had abducted her and kept her confined in a hideout.

Based on the investigation headed by woman police sub inspector Renu D Momin police were able to submit a watertight chargesheet on January 2018.

After completion of the trial, the POCSO Special Judge found the accused Anishur Rahman guilty and sentenced him to a minimum of seven years and a fine of 5000 rupees. He will subsequently have to spend an additional three months in prison if he defaults in payment of the fine imposed on him by the court.
