AIZAWL:
The Government Champhai College (GCC), on March 7, pledged to observe a ‘Green Day’ once a month by not allowing any vehicle in the campus, starting from March 7.
The college authorities didn’t allow its staff and the students to enter the college campus with vehicles to mark the drive against pollution and towards a clean environment in the state.
“The ‘Green Day’ will be observed on the first Monday of every month from now on,” P Lalhmingliana, the college principal, said, adding that the initiative was taken as per the decision of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).
The aim of the drive is to reduce the dependency on automotive vehicles to bring down pollution levels. While students and staff living within Champhai town will walk to the college, those from neighbouring villages are urged to use public transport.
GCC, through this drive, is the first college in Mizoram to observe such a day in its campus, in the state.
