CM lays foundation stones of two developmental projects in Tura

The government has accorded thrust to build iconic structures in the state, and Tura being an important town in the Garo Hills, various infrastructure projects are being implemented in right earnest, the CM said

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma laid the foundation for two prestigious development initiatives in Tura – the Skill Park and Youth Centre, and Track and Field Stadium, on April 4.

The Skill Park and Youth Centre are being built at an estimated cost of Rs 24 crore, while the Track and Field Stadium will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 16 crore.

It was informed that both the infrastructure projects are dedicated to activities related to sports, entrepreneurship, development of youth in the fields of sports, athletics, arts and culture.

Addressing the gathering during the foundation-laying programme, the chief minister said that the government has accorded thrust to build iconic structures in the state, and Tura being an important town in the Garo Hills, various infrastructure projects are being implemented in right earnest – town beautification project, smart town project, internal roads within Tura town, and PA Sangma Integrated Sports complex, among others.

“For the past several years, the roads within Tura town have remained without any repairs or renovation. We as the government have taken the responsibility to ensure that these are repaired and renovated for the overall benefit of the citizen,” he said, stating that all the projects are aimed to ensure that the town becomes modern with amenities and facilities.

Stating that Tura was neglected for years, Sangma said that by implementing various projects the government has envisaged facelifting the town.

Various cultural programmes were held at the event.

 “Government in the last two years has faced challenges due to Covid-19 pandemic, but it never dithered our spirit. As the government, through synergistic effort, we have ensured development and welfare activities were implemented,” he added.

Sangma informed the gathering that the PA Sangma Integrated Sports Complex will have a modern football ground, which is expected to be one of the best football stadiums in the Northeast. He said that the project cost Rs. 128 crores, on completion, will also be ready to host national events such as the Indian Super League matches.

“We have conceptualised a modern design and technology for the construction of the football ground that will soon become the pride of Meghalaya,” he added, informing that by June-July next year, the ground will be ready.

During the programme, he also handed over M-Tab – digital learning tablets – to the students of different schools from Tura, and also handed over cheques amounting to Rs. 28 lakh to 50 Producers Groups under the FOCUS programme.
