SHILLONG:
The Sohiong Block Congress Committee announced the name of S Osborne Kharjana as its candidate from Sohiong constituency at Mawmaram on December 20.
Speaking at the function, the Congress candidate said that there has been no Chief Minister from the Khasi-Jaintia community for many years since voters elect legislators not law makers.
He pointed out that on several occasions, while electing a Member of Parliament, legislators for Members of District Council, the public say that this is only politics.
“In whatever field you are, you belong to the Khasi tribe,” Kharjana said even as he exhorted those present to be politically conscious and elect a capable leader.
He drew the analogy of a boat with a hole in it by saying that if everyone is on the same boat and there is a hole in it and if it is not repaired, all will drown.
“The same way if there is any defect in the system it is for us to fix it else we will all sink,” Kharjana stated.
On his decision to contest the 2023 polls, he said that he has seen the problems of the people of Sohiong in particular and the state in general and also the lack of leaders in Meghalaya.
His father Nit Shabong was the former MLA of Sohiong from 1983 to 1988.
