Jowai:
The Meghalaya Assembly Committee on Women Empowerment visited West Jaintia Hills District on Tuesday at the Conference Hall of Soil and Water Conservation office, Mihmyntdu, Jowai.
The committee convened a meeting with relevant line departments to discuss various issues related to women of the district.
The meeting was headed by MLA Santa Mary Shylla who was accompanied by other committee members which include Miani D Shira, Adelbert Nongrum and Mathew Beyondstar Kurbah.
The discussion focused primarily on initiatives, schemes, assistances and services undertaken by the various government departments with regards to the welfare of women and children of the district. The various programmes conducted by the concerned line departments were examined in order to ascertain their effectiveness in promoting women empowerment and welfare.
Others present in the meeting were Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills, B S Sohliya, Superintendent of Police, WJH C Syrti.
