Guwahati, Feb 20: In what is being termed as “political harassment” by the state government, Congress MLA in Assam, Jakir Hussain Sikdar, along with another party leader have been summoned by Assam Police as part of the ongoing enquiry relating to a clash that took place between party supporters and police personnel during Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ that passed through Guwahati last month.

The Criminal Investigation Department of Assam Police, which is probing the incident, issued summons to Sikdar and Guwahati City Congress general secretary, Ramen Kumar Sarma, asking them to appear before authorities on February 23.

Sikdar and Sarma have been issued notices under Section 41A of CrPC.

Mentionably, on January 23, Congress workers in presence of Gandhi and other leaders broke police barricades which were put up after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma threatened to file an FIR if the Yatra and attempted to enter the main Guwahati city.

The Assam leg of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, which started on January 18 and concluded on January 25, travelled 833 km in 17 districts.
