CPI, Raijor Dal stage protests against price hike in Guwahati

While 300 members of the Raijor Dal led by Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi staged a protest demonstration at Guwahati Press Club on May 6, members of the CPI led by Dharma Baruah and Kanak Gogoi took to the streets of the city a day earlier

GUWAHATI:

Aggrieved by the soaring prices of essential commodities in the country, members of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Raijor Dal took out separate protest rallies against the government’s apathy towards the issue.

While 300 members of the Raijor Dal led by Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi staged a protest demonstration at Guwahati Press Club on May 6, members of the CPI led by Dharma Baruah and Kanak Gogoi took to the streets of the city a day earlier.

Demanding the resignation of the current leadership, Gogoi said the government is not bothered about the common people and is focusing on “unnecessary things”.

“The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in Assam is celebrating its one-year anniversary, and to mark the occasion the chief minister and other cabinet ministers are busy travelling and holding meetings in costly resorts while the common people are suffering,” alleged Gogoi.

Likewise, leaders of the CPI also slammed the BJP government for serving the rich people and ignoring the commoners.

Both the parties said that from groceries, vegetables, medicines to fuels, prices of all essential commodities have gone up, but the ruling government has turned a blind eye towards it.

They also demanded immediate measures to control the situation and help the common people who have already suffered a lot due to the pandemic.
