EKH has more PHCs than what is recommended by Indian govt: Ampareen

She informed that the health department wants to ensure that citizens from different regions avail health facilities in their area, and not come to other districts for common treatments.

SHILLONG:

Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, on August 22, informed that the East Khasi Hills district has more PHCs than what is recommended by Indian standards.

Lyngdoh was replying to query on shortage of PHCs in the district, wherein she informed that there is shortage of Health Centres or Dispensaries, which are smaller versions of PHCs.

“We are also instituting the Sub-Divisional Hospitals which are treasury care centres of the state. A pregnant woman from Ranikor ideally should not come all the way to Shillong for medical treatment vital for safe birth of a child. So now we are also looking at Mawphlang being one of the centres for pregnant mothers. We will have a web of facilities so that we reduce the intake and wastage of funds by citizens,” Lyngdoh informed.

She informed that the health department wants to ensure that citizens from different regions avail health facilities in their area, and not come to other districts for common treatments.

Lyngdoh also informed that the Health Centres now will be managed by communities which will be unique for the state.

She informed that during Covid, it was the community leaders who helped in containing the disease by putting in place various preventive measures.

“We will utilise the systems which are inherently there in the state, and we will allow community leaders to help in ensuring quality health care is given to the citizens of Meghalaya,” she said.
