Nongstoin:

The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has expressed concern over the narrowly constructed pillar of a bridge at Nonbah River in West Khasi Hills district.

The bridge is being constructed by a Jharkhand-based company Spica, which has also undertaken the ongoing construction work of the National Highway Nongstoin-Rambrai-Kyrshai.

FKJGP Nongstoin Circle president, Pynshai Kharbani said that the Federation has received several complaints from the public that the bridge is being constructed in a way that will block the running water and cause erosion at a greater level, and will lead to flooding and damage to the adjoining areas.

Kharbani called on the authorities to visit the site and inspect the construction once again, he also requested the authorities to change the plan of construction if necessary.

“We do not intend to disturb the construction, but we want to ensure the safety of the people in the years to come,” said Kharbani.
