8th District Level Industrial Exhibition Unveiled in South West Garo Hills

Ampati, March 6, 2024: The 8th District Level Industrial Exhibition, organized by the Office of the General Manager, District Commerce & Industries Centre, South West Garo Hills, Ampati, in collaboration with Meghalayan Age Ltd., Meghalaya Tourism, Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project, Garo Hills, and Nokpante Productions, was inaugurated on Wednesday by Sanjay A Sangma, MLA of 54 Mahendraganj Legislative Assembly & Chairman, Board of Directors, Meghalaya Infratech & Innovation Corporation Limited.

The three-day exhibition, held at Students’ Field Ampati until Friday, boasts various attractions, including a mini fitness center, audio-visual room showcasing success stories, food stalls, a photo booth, and live music by Nokpante Production featuring artists from Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project.
During the inaugural program, key figures such as CRN Sangma, BDO of Betasing C&RD Block, Vikas Kumar, SP South West Garo Hills, and officers from numerous line departments attended.

During the inaugural program, Chief Guest Sanjay Sangma emphasized the importance of utilizing talents, applying for the CM Alleviate scheme, and embracing modern tools for work efficiency. He commended the role of machines in easing tasks and encouraged locals not to abandon their skills, promising government support.
CRN Sangma highlighted the exhibition’s role in providing a platform for local entrepreneurs and fostering a sense of community support.
Vikas Kumar, SP South West Garo Hills, expressed optimism about the region’s potential, urging local entrepreneurs to focus on product packaging and marketing to boost sales. He also emphasized the upcoming Dhubri-Phulbari bridge as a significant opportunity for business expansion.
The extensive functions of the District Commerce & Industries Centre (DCIC) including human resource development, provision of toolkits, marketing assistance, and financial support through schemes like PMEGP. The office, established in 2014, aims to promote small-scale industries and self-employment ventures, contributing to the overall industrial development of the region.
The various programs and schemes implemented by DCIC, such as the Master Craftsman Scheme, Training Inside and Outside the State, and Investment Promotion Programme, aim to equip individuals with essential skills and support their entrepreneurial endeavors.
The efforts made by the Centre in marketing assistance, industrial exhibitions, and collaborations with sister organizations like Meghalaya Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Ltd and TRIFED. The establishment of Border Haats and Land Customs Stations further enhances economic opportunities for the region.
The organizational setup of DCIC, emphasizing its diverse background and expertise in engineering fields. The commitment to capacity building and the promotion of entrepreneurship as a viable career option reflect DCIC’s dedication to addressing unemployment issues and fostering economic development in South West Garo Hills.
