Four people arrested in Tripura with huge cache of contraband items

The police seized 66 kg of marijuana from Dharmanagar, and confiscated 300 bottles of Phensedyl from Bishalgarh.

AGARTALA:

The Tripura Police, on July 31, arrested four people from two locations of the state and seized a huge cache of contraband items.

In the first incident, the police revealed that as checking was being conducted at Dharmanagar Railway Station, sub-divisional police officer of Dharmanagar, Soumya Debbarma, inspector Shibu Pada Dey, who is officer-in-charge of Dharmanagar Police Station, and other police personnel, noticed two people moving about suspiciously.

On seeing the police, the two tried to flee but were detained near Tongibari village. On being searched, the police seized 66 kg of marijuana contained in 19 packets from their possession.

The two, who have been arrested, were identified as Dipak Nama (27) of Sidhai Mohanpur under West district, and Gonesh Sharma (44) of Bihar. A case has been registered against them and further investigation is on.

Dharmanagar is situated in Tripura’s North district which shares interstate boundaries with Assam and Mizoram.

In another incident, police in Bishalgarh sub-division of Tripura’s Sepahijala district detained an auto rickshaw and confiscated 300 bottles of Phensedyl.

Two drug smugglers, Keshab Chandra Das and Mizanur Rahman of Boxnagar, were arrested in connection with the seizure and booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

According to police sources, the two arrested drug traffickers will be sent to Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Court on August 1.
