GH cop gets 5 years rigorous jail

The accused had molested the eight-year-old inside her house on January 24, 2013.

A policeman, who molested a child over nine years ago, has finally been given a prison term of five years by the East Garo Hills district sessions and POCSO court.

The special judge for POCSO cases and district sessions judge of East Garo Hills, M Skhemlon, sentenced unarmed branch police constable of East Garo Hills, Ajaybirth Ch Marak, to five years for the crime.

The accused had molested the eight-year-old inside her house on January 24, 2013.

Lead investigator from the Williamnagar police station Nitu I Sangma presented a watertight case against the accused for the crime and the court gave its verdict on the accused who is currently serving his prison term in Williamnagar district jail.

In another hearing in Shillong, a local court sentenced one Ferdinus Marbaniang to five years and three months in jail for sexually assaulting a minor girl and imposed a fine of Rs 3,000.

The offender was found guilty and convicted by the Court of Special Judge (POCSO Act) on June 21.

Marbaniang had sexually assaulted a 14-year-old, the FIR of which was filed with the Rynjah police station on May 24, 2015.

A case was registered and a charge sheet was filed on March 8, 2016.
