Shillong:
Meghalaya Governor Phagu Chauhan on September 3 attended a function organised by the Rachnatmak Nonia Sanyukt Sangh at Bihutoli Khel Maidan at Guwahati in Assam. Around 20, 000 people from different districts of Assam attended the programme.
During the programme, a memorandum was handed over to the governor by the organising committee for the inclusion of the Nonia caste in the OCB category in Assam.
Later in the evening, the governor met Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at Raj Bhavan where he brought to the notice of Sarma on the need to include Nonia caste in the OBC category.
The Assam chief minister assured the governor to look into the matter at the earliest.
