Govt-HPC talks on relocation likely next week

Addressing media persons on Monday, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said, “Most likely next week we will invite them for talks on the issue.”

SHILLONG:

The state government has decided to invite the Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) next week for discussion on the relocation of the colony from Them Iew Mawlong.

Addressing media persons on Monday, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said, “Most likely next week we will invite them for talks on the issue.”

He, however, refused to provide information on the alternative site for relocation of the Harijan Colony from Them Iew Mawlong.

Tynsong said the terms and reference of the High Level Committee (HLC) mention ‘relocation’. “The moment you mention ‘relocation’, it means the government has to also provide a place for shifting of that population we have as of today. I will not be able to tell you all the details, let us meet first and once the meeting is over we will know where and how we go about it.”

His statement came in the wake of the HPC saying it is waiting for the state government to invite them for discussion on an alternative site for relocation.

Tynsong also thanked the Harijan committee for showing interest in discussing the issue with the government. “They have also in their application pleaded through the Meghalaya High Court that the government should provide a place for relocation,” he added.
