KSU seeks action against teacher for negligence in WJH school

In a complaint lodged with Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma, KSU-WJHDU president Laitphar Syngkrem expressed concern about Shylla's irregular presence, causing substantial loss to students and other faculty members.

SHILLONG:

The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has called for action against lower primary school teacher Wikiru Shylla, accusing him of negligence of duty, which has significantly impacted students.

In a complaint lodged with Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma, KSU-WJHDU president Laitphar Syngkrem expressed concern about Shylla’s irregular presence, causing substantial loss to students and other faculty members. The letter condemned Shylla’s unpunctuality, stating that despite this, he has been receiving regular salary payments.

“His (Shylla’s) irregular presence has caused a great loss for the students as well as the other faculty members of the school,” KSU-WJHDU president Laitphar Syngkrem said in the letter while adding “Surprisingly, he (Shylla) has been receiving his salary on a regular basis which is highly unfair. We strongly condemn Wikiru Shylla for his unpunctuality which has created a negative impact on the academics of the students.”

After meeting with Minister Sangma, KSU’s education secretary Hababiangki Biam revealed that Shylla joined the school on July 4, 2013, attending only 33 days of classes in 2013 and 23 days in 2014.

Due to his actions, the teacher faced suspension from March 2017 to November 2019 but was reinstated in December 2019 and has continued without attending regular classes.
