Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and Education Minister Rakkam A. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, addressing the conclave, emphasised the government’s commitment to enhancing education in rural areas. He stated, “As a Government, we are committed to improving education in rural areas, and the appointment of qualified teachers will greatly enhance the performance of students from a young age, thereby improving the overall quality of education across the state.”

Sangma acknowledged the transformative role of education and the state’s vision for progress. He emphasised the importance of the right mindset, stating, “If we are not shaping the minds, values, and personalities of the individual, we are not fulfilling the true potential as teachers.”

He discussed the government’s approach and mindset to bring about positive changes, highlighting the challenges faced over the last five years. He emphasised the government’s mission to make Meghalaya one of the top 10 states in the country, with a focus on housing, road connectivity, water supply, and mobile connectivity.

Drawing a comparison between New Zealand and Meghalaya, Sangma underscored the importance of investing in human capital, education, research, and technology for overall growth and development. He highlighted the government’s efforts in the last five years to prioritize education, build school infrastructure, and develop human capital.

Education Minister Rakkam Sangma congratulated the newly appointed teachers and stressed their crucial role in shaping young minds. He urged teachers to provide the best possible education, emphasizing the need to set an example for students.

Lok Sabha MP Agatha K Sangma shared a message from her late father, Purno Agitok Sangma, on the values teachers should embody while imparting education. The event also included the release of NCERT textbooks by MBOSE for Classes 1 to 10.

The initiative aims to strengthen Meghalaya’s education framework, providing comprehensive coverage of subjects and better-preparing youth for national-level competitive and entrance exams. The distribution of appointment letters is expected to continue in the capital city of Shillong on February 6, 2024.
