Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha Agatha K Sangma inaugurated the PKMSY-WDC-2.0 GIMI Watershed at Rongadatgre, Demdema, Community, and Rural Development Block, West Garo Hills.
The launching event, attended by Soil and Water Conservation Minister Marcuise N Marak, department officials, and local residents, highlighted the significance of developmental schemes to improve economic conditions in the state. Speaking during the programme, Sangma emphasised the need to focus on agriculture, horticulture, and natural resource preservation, addressing challenges like Arecanut plantation issues.
Marak noted that PMKSY is a centrally sponsored scheme aimed at sustainable natural resource management and livelihood activities. The project, funded by DOLR, MoRD, Government of India, targets combating climate change, preserving water sources, and boosting rural livelihoods.
The scheme includes provisions for Livelihood and Micro Enterprise, a revolving fund for Self Help Groups, Production System for individual farmers, and training programmes.
The event also witnessed the distribution of cheques to Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the area.
