NEHU sets up committee to probe ragging in Tura campus

'The safety and well-being of our students are paramount to us, and such occurrences are wholly unacceptable within our academic community,' the statement read.

SHILLONG:

In response to the incident of ragging that transpired in the hostel of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Tura campus on October 8, the University administration of NEHU has expressed deep concern,stating that they will take immediate action to address this incident.

‘The safety and well-being of our students are paramount to us, and such occurrences are wholly unacceptable within our academic community,’ the statement read.

The University has formed a fact-finding committee tasked with a comprehensive investigation into the incident. The committee is led by Prof. Lucy Zehol, Dean of the School of Human & Environmental Sciences, who will imminently travel to NEHU Tura Campus to commence the investigation.

Furthermore, NEHU upholds a zero-tolerance policy against any form of ragging or harassment within the University. If the incident is confirmed, the culprits will face stringent disciplinary actions as per the University’s regulations and the pertinent laws of the country.

Regular updates on the investigation’s progress and subsequent actions will be provided to the public and the media. ‘We greatly appreciate your understanding and support during this time,’ the statement further read.
