A sports utility vehicle (SUV) hit an auto-rickshaw at Pahammawlein leaving on dead on Monday

NONGPOH:

One person died and two others received severe injuries after a sports utility vehicle (SUV) hit the auto-rickshaw they were travelling in, at Pahammawlein on National Highway 6, on August 1.

The deceased, who was on the wheels of the auto-rickshaw, has been identified as Julius Nongsiej (28) of Umling Lymbrang. He succumbed to his injuries on reaching Nongpoh Civil Hospital. The other two injured – Silbanus Lapang of Nongkylla Byrnihat and Bijoy Makri, of Sohpu Umling – are currently undergoing treatmeng at the hospital.

According to reports, the incident occurred when the auto-rickshaw (ML 10 B 3474), which was travelling on the wrong side, came on the way of a speeding SUV, at around 2:30 pm on Monday. The SUV lost control and rammed into the auto-rickshaw.

After the incident, the personnel of the Nongpoh Police Traffic Branch reached the spot and detained the driver of the SUV, Sartaj Ansari (19), for the investigation.
