Opposition busy pushing ‘Baaki Card’ agenda; NPP’s work will speak for itself: James Sangma

The Dadenggre MLA spoke about how the constituency has progressed compared to what it was five years ago.

SHILLONG:

Sitting MLA and NPP candidate from Dadenggre constituency, James PK Sangma, on Thursday said Meghalaya’s response to the developmental initiatives taken by the NPP-led government will reflect on March 2 when NPP gets absolute majority and return to form the government.

Sangma was speaking at an election meeting organised by the National People’s Party (NPP) in Dadenggre on Thursday – a gathering that witnessed a turnout of over 10,000 people across Dadenggre constituency.

The Dadenggre MLA spoke about how the constituency has progressed compared to what it was five years ago.

Hitting out at his opponents, Sangma said that while the opposition camp is pushing it’s ‘Baaki Card’ agenda, NPP’s work will speak for itself on March 2.

Sangma, who is a two-time MLA from the Dadenggre constituency, won the seat with a thumping margin in 2018, defeating now-TMC candidate Rupa Marak. With supporters joining the NPP in large numbers in recent times, Sangma said he is hoping to increase the margin of victory further this election.

Also present in the meeting was his younger brother and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, and Tura MP Agatha Sangma.

In his speech, the CM highlighted the party’s legacy and commitment to development, stating that the vision and mission of the party for empowering the region has always resonated with people in the past.

“Dadenggre has always been an NPP stronghold. The people of the constituency have always respected the party’s founding father Late PA Sangma, who worked relentlessly throughout his life for the upliftment of Garo Hills,” he said.

Sangma said that the wave of NPP in Dadenggre is a part of the larger wave across Meghalaya, where most people are now convinced that the party is going to come to power with absolute majority.

The occasion also had the presence of Soradini K. Sangma, wife of NPP founding leader Lt. Purno A. Sangma, who spoke about the debt of the people of Garo Hills on all her children.

“I have always told my children while raising them that no matter where you study, what work you do, what life you lead, you must not forget Garo Hills. The people have bestowed their complete trust on you. You owe them your life. You must not forget,” she said.

Prior to this, a bike & car rally was carried out in the constituency. The rally started at Damal Asim, passed through Romgre and Sadolpara, and culminated at Dadenggre, after which people gathered in the main ground for a meeting.
