Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh

SHILLONG:

MDA spokesperson Paul Lyngdoh on Saturday appealed to the ASHA workers to come forward and discuss their issues with the government.

“As this involves their interest, I don’t see why they (ASHAs) should go to the streets and take the path of agitation. So let them meet the minister and resolve the issues,”Paul told reporters.

The cabinet minister said in fact Meghalaya has done the best thing for ASHA workers by providing them with fixed remuneration when compared to other states in NE region.

“Since there is a fixed remuneration, it is expected that the ASHAs reciprocate by extending their appreciation (to the government),” Paul said.

He however added, “It is human nature to expect more but there is a limit to everything.”

Paul said that the health minister Ampareen Lyngdoh had already given assurance to meet the ASHA workers.

Health care services have been disrupted in over 7,000 villages after ASHA workers resorted to indefinite strike for the past 12 days against the government’s failure to enhance their honorarium to Rs 5,000.
