Ri Bhoi:
A massive fire broke out at the 9 Mile Baridua Market in Ri Bhoi District, Meghalaya, early on the morning of January 7, 2023. The fire started at around 3:30 am and burned down 17 shops, including retailers and clothing stores.
Local residents called for help and the police patrolling the road informed the fire brigade, and the fire was eventually contained by firefighters from Meghalaya and Assam at around 6 am.
No casualties have been reported, but the market suffered more than Rs 30 lakh in losses. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Police of Khanapara Outpost, Ribhoi.
