PDF seeks response from MLA over reports of him jumping ship

SHILLONG:

After getting the whiff that one of its legislators will be jumping the ship ahead of 2023 polls, the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) has sought a written clarification from Hamlet Dohling.

“We have sought a written clarification from MLA Hamlet Dohling today and gave him two days to respond,” said a source to The Meghalayan.

The source also said that though speculations are rife that Dohling will be leaving the party, the legislator, who holds a cabinet rank in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), is, however, responding to party matters.

“Till date, he is still responding to party matters. Officially, he did not suggest anything so far. We will wait for his written clarification due on or before Wednesday,” the source said.

Earlier on August 6, the party, while speaking to the press, had informed that two former members of the district council (MDCs) of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) have resigned from the People’s Democratic Front (PDF).

In what can be seen as a thought-out move before the 2023 polls, the former MDC of Mawkyrwat, Hadrian Lyngdoh and ex-MDC from Umroi constituency, Albinus Lyngdoh quit PDF.

Interestingly, on the same day, National People’s Youth Front (NPYF) Bajop Pyngrope had informed that Dohling will contest on an NPP ticket from Mylliem at a programme on Saturday.

The source also added that in case Dohling refuses to reply, the Central Executive Committee will take a decision on the matter in its meeting slated for August 12.
