NEW DELHI:

President Ram Nath Kovind will grace the valedictory function of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in North East that will be organised coinciding with 75 years of independence.

The programme, scheduled to start from April 28, would be held across the eight states in the region.

“Culmination of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav week will be celebrated at a valedictory event to be held at Guwahati on May 4. The event will be graced by the presence of President Ram Nath Kovind, along with governors and chief ministers of all the rates,” said  DoNER Minister G Kishan Reddy .

The programme will also highlight the development of the Northeastern region in all sectors.

“During the last eight years, the Northeastern region has made impressive leads in connectivity. Whereas only Guwahati was linked by railways prior to 2014, today two more capitals have been linked  and the work on connecting the rest of capital cities is underway,” said DoNER secretary Lok Ranjan.

He said that work is underway to connect the state capitals of Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland through four lanes and alternate two lane highways to Sikkim.

Ranjan said that the connectivity in interior areas is being given a fillip through the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojna.

“As on date, there are 15 operational airports in the North East and work on 24 projects for upgradation and modernisation and creation of new airports is underway. In a similar way, projects are underway in telecom, power, international connectivity and science and technology,” the DoNER secretary said.
