Protest against poor construction of Tura inroads

The two organisations have filed an RTI into the work and also undertook a spot visit to the affected areas before submitting the complaint letter to the DC.

TURA:

Garo pressure groups which include Federation for A’chik Freedom (FAF) and A’chik Youth Welfare Organisation (AYWO) have registered a written complaint with West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Jagdish Chelani seeking action against a road construction contractor for poor implementation of projects meant to develop the locality inroads of Tura town.

The two groups accused the firm of contractor Bimal Kumar Agarwala of shoddy work in construction of the Rongkhon Songgital and Asibra roads which is part of Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma’s South Tura constituency.

In their complaint to the deputy commissioner, the FAF and AYWO stated that they were compelled to seek action against the contractor after the development committees of the localities of Ringgi Songgital, Rongkhon Songgital and Asibra approached them to petition the authorities.

The two organisations have filed an RTI into the work and also undertook a spot visit to the affected areas before submitting the complaint letter to the DC.

“After the spot enquiry, it is found that the road construction work was completely different from the DPR prepared by the concerned department, since the retaining walls which are supposed to construct along the construction work was not done by the said contractor,” alleged the two organisations.

They urged the DC to take action at the earliest to ensure the people residing in the affected areas get the rectification demanded and also blacklist the company for the poor workmanship.
